I found this artist on PaintersNYC blog. Glenn Brown clearly takes a lot of inspiration from Dali – to the point of making replica art (this one an adaptation of Dali’s The Great Masturbator).

I like the power and sense of flow in The Tragic Conversion of Salvador DalĂ (after John Martin) 1998, which looks at first glance like waves crashing into rocks but dissolves into some kind of volcanic explosion.

Or this portrait which has melted into thick caricatures of brush strokes almost like Lichtenstein’s
