Deficit by president

December 16, 2007

I was looking at this graph of the U.S. deficit by presidential term. I think it misleads you into imagining a monocausal model of how the economy works. Clinton’s term marked a huge turnaround, which can be attributed partly to cuts in defense spending, but also to strong economic growth. I’m of the opinion that it’s often wrong to credit presidents with economic growth or decline.

Are you the one responsible for the taking down of the graph posted on the web?

I guess you are going to say Bush’s near 3 TRILLION in deficit and Ronald Reagan backed David Stockman Voodoo economics!

While their may be some truth in what you say, I suspect it is very little.

And why would you want to hide this chart from the American people?
