Stolen art and guns

February 25, 2008

Two clippings from today. From a Foreign Policy interview with a stolen art dealer:

At the moment, if you walked into a museum in D.C. and took a Rembrandt, you’d get about three to five years and maybe a plea bargain. But if you equated the value of the Rembrandt to other commodities, you’d be looking at 25 to life.

And from Alex Tabarrok’s analysis of the Oakland gun buyback:

If buyers know that they can sell their old guns in a buyback, they are more likely to buy new guns.

Gun buyback makes as much sense as Virginia allowing a person with a permit to carry a concealed weapon into an establishment that serves alcohol but they are not allowed to drink. The “designated gun carrier”.

What about a designated complainer. One person who can complain about the food, the lighting, the staff. Just that one complainer per group…. and they are allowed to just take art from walls if the like it. Just take it.
