A year or so ago, I posted a photoset to Flickr with some scans from The Practical Encyclopedia of Good Decorating and Home Improvement (1970). James Lileks mocked this book famously.
I found another photoset that looks to have some more. They never get old!

Puke green, mustard, and leopard never seem to go out of style. They are timeless.

lots of people left comments fauning over the furniture, for its looks no doubt, but you can’t tell me that 30 yr old furniture won’t stink. when/if you find your dream item at a thrift store it will smell like either cigarette smoke, cat pee, or grandma’s house (or maybe a combination of the three).
the scent test is when you stick your nose in the couch cushion/seat fabric/vintage rug and take a big long draw. If it doesn’t smell, you may have been in the thrift store too long and deadened your nerve endings. leave for a breath of fresh air and return for your scent test. …and always bring a friend along for a second opinion.
