Bootstrapping images

I’m starting a masters program in Statistics this fall, and poking around some papers and Wikipedia articles to get acquainted.  I came across these two images referenced in a paper “Modern Science and the Bayesian-Frequentist Controversy” (2005) by Brad Efron.  Bootstrapping involves resampling within an observed dataset, and using the sampling distribution to approximate the real distribution.
